Expedition Cruising with National Geographic Expeditions
When you journey on a National Geographic Expedition cruise, you will experience a refined adventure which delivers only the best of both worlds.
The idea of a ‘luxury expedition cruise’ may seem like a contradiction in terms. After all, ‘expedition’ suggests navigating harsh terrain burdened by heavy boots and backpacks whereas ‘cruising’ brings to mind the indolent enjoyment of dozing on a sun lounger as the world drifts by. When you journey on a National Geographic Expedition cruise, you will experience a refined adventure which delivers only the best of both worlds.
Our fleet of luxurious and environmentally responsible ships will transport you effortlessly and safely to the most remote and fascinating corners of the globe. Discovering places larger vessels are unable to reach, our intimately scaled ships explore the world’s most exceptional destinations in luxury and style.
So what can you expect when you step aboard a state-of-the-art National Geographic Expeditions ship?
On every National Geographic Expeditions cruise, you will be accompanied by one or more of our expert naturalists and photographers who will share their knowledge and passion for the breath-taking destinations you visit and the wildlife you encounter. They will be your guides when you head out to explore onshore and when you take to the water aboard one of the Zodiac© landing crafts. Back on the ship they will give regular talks and lectures in the on board theatre. Their expertise is certain to enrich your trip, elevating your experience to one of discovery and wonder.
Our attentive and professional staff are at your service to ensure your expedition will be one to be remembered. Even under the most extreme climatic conditions, you can be sure of great comfort and exceptional service. Your suite or stateroom will be spacious, and elegantly appointed and all offer sea views (95% of them have balconies too).
Around your ship you’ll find that you are among a select group of travellers – never more than 264 – in beautifully designed surroundings with a sophisticated yet convivial atmosphere. There are plenty of places to relax and take in the view, both inside and out. The main lounge is a perfect spot to enjoy a drink with newfound friends, the panorama lounge is the best spot to enjoy the view. There is a library on board all our ships which have a range of books, including the latest National Geographic publications. The outdoor areas are equally comfortable, conducive to relaxation and enjoying the sublime scenery. There is even a heated pool if you want to take a dip. Should you feel the need for a bit of pampering, all our ships have a spa – where you can choose from a menu of treatments, a relaxing massage or perhaps you will use the sauna.
We know guests like to head home with mementos of their trip, so a visit to the on-board shop which offers a selection of presents and souvenirs including National Geographic merchandise, clothing, jewellery, beauty products, postcards, and accessories is a must. At the Photography Studio you can view the special moments captured by the expedition photographers. You can purchase these photographs to take home and share with your friends and family.
As you would expect the on board dining experience is second to none. We offer the highest standards of cuisine and offer a varied menu, created by our chefs using superior quality ingredients, locally sourced wherever possible, and of course beautifully presented. Everyone’s tastes are catered for and special menus are available on request for guests with specific dietary requirements. A la carte meals are served in the beautiful gastro restaurant, with stunning dishes inspired by contemporary French brasseries, while The Grill restaurant offers more casual buffet style dining. And if you are cruising on board Le Commandant Charcot you will find ‘Le Nuna’, the first-ever shipboard restaurant by celebrated French chef Alain Ducasse. You will also find bars and lounges on board where you can relax and enjoy a drink or casse-croutê – all meals and room service are included, and you’ll enjoy the benefits of an open bar from water to (house) Champagne!
Our captains are committed to providing you with the real feel of an expedition and will take every opportunity to ensure you experience unforgettable moments. Luxury, exploration and the spirit of adventure combine perfectly on a National Geographic Expeditions cruise.
