Explore the beauty of Alaska in this magnificent 8-day family expedition with National Geographic. Journey from the majestic Fairbanks in Alaska aboard the celebrated Denali Star train which will take you to the picturesque Denali National Park and Preserve. Hike through the extraordinary scenery and experience nature at its most beautiful. Embark on a spectacular river cruise that will take you to the renowned Kenai fjords and keep an eye out for the wildlife that thrives in the icy waters. You will be joined by  Naturalist and environmental scientist Carl Tobin who will enrich all June and July departures.

Itinerary - 8 Days

1-2 Fairbanks, Alaska/ Denali National Park and Preserve

Arrive in Fairbanks and meet Iditarod veteran Mary Shields and her sled dogs. The next day, step aboard the celebrated Denali Star train and travel to Denali National Park and Preserve. Drive into the heart of the park in search of moose, caribou, grey wolves, grizzlies, and Dall sheep.

3-4 Denali National Park and Preserve

In Denali’s magnificent interior, set out on guided hikes or walks each day. Meander in wildflower-strewn meadows, or hike to a ridgeline summit for commanding views. Weather permitting, opt for a flight-seeing trip around Denali, or choose to go fishing, gold-panning, or mountain biking at the lodge.

5 Denali National Park and Preserve/Anchorage

Go on an early morning drive to spot wildlife when they are most active. Board a private bus for the stunning journey south to Anchorage, taking in views of glacier-capped peaks and the Susitna River watershed along the way. Stop for lunch before arriving in Anchorage this evening.

6-7 Girdwood/Kenai Fjords National Park/Seward

Take the tram to the top of Alyeska Mountain for a panoramic view, and enjoy up-close animal encounters at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Centre. Drive along the scenic Seward Highway to the coastal town of Seward. The next day, embark on a day cruise through Kenai Fjords National Park.
Watch for humpback whales and orcas, playful sea otters and seals; glide past towering tidewater glaciers; and listen for the telltale boom of glacial calving. Celebrate your Alaska adventure with a farewell dinner on the Seward harbour.

8 Kenai Peninsula/Anchorage

On our final morning, set out on one last hike to the impressive Exit Glacier. Return to Anchorage and connect with your flight home. (B)
