Itinerary - 10 Days

1 Colón, Panama

Start your Caribbean expedition cruise in Colón, the second largest city in Panama. Founded in 1850, Colón is one of the most important ports in the Caribbean Sea and was declared a free-trade zone in 1953. Explore the old town, historic churches and the Canal Expansion Observation Centre, a park with viewing platforms over the canal’s Atlantic locks and Gatún Lake.

2 San Blas Islands

A collection of over 300 islands and cays, San Blas Islands offer unrivalled beauty with turquoise waters, palm-lined beaches and a wealth of exotic marine life. Discover the Kunas Indian community who will welcome you in their villages of bamboo houses gathered near the beaches.

3 Cartagena

Situated in the north of Columbia, Cartagena is a city filled with colonial architecture, a UNESCO listed historic centre, whose churches and houses have magnificent multi-coloured façadesan. The San Felipe de Barajas fortress which sits on top of a hill, allows you to admire views over the whole city. Explore the Las Bóvedas neighbourhood where you will discover unique arcades, used as prison cells during the 19th-century civil wars.

4 At Sea

During your time at sea, get acquainted with the luxurious facilities onboard the Le Dumont-d’Urville ship. Treat yourself to a moment of relaxation in the spa or stay in shape in the fitness centre. Depending on the season, let yourself be tempted by the swimming pool or a spot of sunbathing. This day will also be an opportunity to enjoy the conferences or shows proposed on board, to do some shopping in the boutique or to meet the PONANT photographers in their dedicated space. As for lovers of the open sea, they will be able to visit the ship’s upper deck to admire the spectacle of the waves and perhaps be lucky enough to observe marine species.

5 Bonaire

The perfect stop for divers, Bonaire is surrounded by a barrier reef and is a marine sanctuary making for the most perfect diving conditions. Renowned for its coral reefs and rich underwater life, Bonaire provides the perfect opportunity to explore the rich waters below. The Washington Slagbaai National Park in the north of the island is home to many birds and is the most important breeding site in the south Caribbean for the pink flamingo, the island’s emblematic animal.

6 At Sea

7 Saint George's, Grenada

The picturesque city of Saint George’s offers lush sandy beaches, dramatic mountains and dense rainforests hiding flowing waterfalls and a rich offering of flora and fauna. The ‘spice island’ capital is the perfect base for discovering the surrounding natural sites, but you’ll also want to spend some time here moseying around its narrow streets where colonial houses and lush green gardens coexist. Don’t miss the Grand Anse beach which is known for being one of the most beautiful in the Caribbean islands.

8 Mayreau Island

Mayreau Island is one of the smallest islands that make up the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines archipelago. Like many other Caribbean islands, Mayreau is filled with serene white beaches, turquoise waters and exotic marine life. Enjoy snorkelling in the warm waters and explore the superb coral gardens overflowing with life and colour.

9 Soufrière

Formerly the capital of St Lucia, Soufrière is a haven of beauty. Characterised by the Pitons, volcanic spires that tower over the entrance to the town, Soufrière is a friendly, welcoming town bursting with authentic Creole charm. Enjoy diving, swimming and wandering around this relaxed island and don’t miss the Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens for the mineral baths, one of the natural wonders of the Caribbean.

10 Fort-De-France, Martinique

As your expedition cruise in the Caribbean comes to an end, complete your voyage in Fort-De-France situated on the western coast of Martinique. Enjoy the wondrous bay area, which is considered the most beautiful in the world and climb up to the top of fort Saint-Louis which overlooks the capital city of Martinique. Step back in time and explore Saint Louis Cathedral and the Schoelcher library that has a rich past. Relax at your leisure before making your way home.
